The conceptual design for the new community park proposes to include a:

  • Pump track and park shelter;
  • Parking area with access from Douglas Drive;
  • Site furnishings including benches, picnic tables, bike racks and garbage containers;
  • Portable washroom facilities;
  • Trail linkages; and
  • Signage and fencing.

Background
From 2019 to 2021, Town staff carried out a feasibility study for the development of a pump track bike park within the community, which included several initiatives such as:

  • Exploring and referencing municipally-owned pump tracks in other communities;
  • Reviewing and evaluating potential locations for a pump track; and
  • Public consultation through multiple surveys targeting the community, as well as youth, adults and community sport organizations and clubs to determine the level of interest in a pump track.

The feasibility study confirmed that a pump track would be a valuable municipal asset as part of a community park that would be well-utilized by residents and visitors. The study also suggested a strong community interest in the development providing benefits of physical activity and the opportunity for youth and adults to enjoy something new, fun, challenging and good for all ages and abilities.

This initiative was driven by the 2018 Recreation, Parks, and Trails Master Plan as the Plan recommends park development and the inclusion of new multi-use sport facilities that support both informal and structured activities that are spontaneous and include self-directed play.

On March 16, 2022, Council ratified motion 22-GC-023 as follows:

"That a portion of the 9.34-acre parcel of parkland located between Little Ryan’s Way, Douglas Drive and Canadian National (CN) Rail Line, substantially in the form attached as Appendix “A” to Staff Report RC002-22, be identified as the site for a future community park and pump track."

In 2023, Public Works staff brought forward Staff Report PW001-23, to discuss the conceptual design and cost estimate to Council for the New Community Park and Pump Track on the Town-owned parkland between Little Ryan's Way and Douglas Drive.

I think this project makes for fantastic land use! A pump track would be a fun outdoor activity that lots of people can enjoy.

I think there's an excellent opportunity to develop this area into a multi-use sports type location by including the development of an outdoor, covered or uncovered parkour park! With the addition of some concrete, wood, and bar structures in a small area, this plot of land could serve a wider demographic and encourage twice the amount of outdoor physical activity within the same hectarage!

There is a growing interest in our community for the incredibly versatile sport of parkour, in part due to Action Center Elite's programming, and an outdoor public parkour park would provide lots of opportunity for the population of Bracebridge to stay fit, enjoy the outdoors, get together as a community, and much more!

I live on Little Ryan's Way. Each time a train passes beside our development our houses shake. The significant vibration causes my dishes to rattle, my wall hangings to shift and often wakes me up from a sound sleep. In addition to the many objections I know have been shared about noise, parking, property values and environmental issues surrounding the selection of this particular plot for the park, which I share, and the obvious question: why hasn't this park been included in the multi-million dollar Muskoka Lumber Community Centre project plan, has anyone considered the safety aspect? If the ground beneath my house can resonate that violently, what happens when a biker from mid-air lands when the train is passing?

From the concept drawing it appears that the park has only a small patch between it and mcnabb soccer fields. It also appears that there is a wide enough area along the tracks to join the two. Even if it's a walkway why would you not complete the project and join the two parks.
