Consultation has concluded

The Town of Bracebridge is reviewing possible changes to improve taxi service in Bracebridge.

Currently, taxis (vehicles for hire) operating in the Town are required to have a business licence. There are a limited number of licences available based on the Town’s population, they expire after 12 months and must be renewed annually.

In order to obtain a business licence a taxi operator is required to have their vehicle inspected by a Town By-law Officer and provide proof of valid insurance and a current safety standards certificate for the vehicle. Driver screening is not a component in the Town’s business licencing process.

Council is considering removing the requirement for taxi operators to obtain a business licence as a means of improving service. This would eliminate any limit on the number of licences available for taxis while making it easier and less expensive to own and operate a taxi or other vehicle for hire service (Uber/Lyft) in Bracebridge which may provide additional options for service to the community.

The Town would like to receive your input before any future decisions about this important issue are made.

Please take a few minutes to answer the survey questions below.

The information obtained from this survey will help to guide Council in its decision making to improve on demand taxi and vehicle for hire service in Bracebridge.
